Honda Fit Radiator: GE vs GP Fitment in Jamaica
A failing radiator is a common cause of a Honda Fit overheating in Kingston traffic. Before buying a replacement, confirm your chassis code — the GE6, GE8, GP1 and GP5 do not all use the same radiator, and the wrong one leaks or cools poorly. WhatsApp us your chassis and we confirm fitment before you leave home.
GE vs GP — not interchangeable
The GE6 and GE8 are petrol Fits (1.3L L13A / 1.5L L15A) using a conventional radiator. The GP1 and GP5 are hybrids and need a radiator designed around the hybrid cooling circuit. Fitting a GE radiator to a GP hybrid causes leaks and poor cooling.
- GE6 / GE8: petrol, conventional radiator
- GP1 / GP5: hybrid, different cooling circuit
- Confirm auto (CVT) vs manual — cooler fittings differ
Checking a used radiator
Used radiators are good value but inspect first: aluminium fins straight and clean, plastic tanks free of cracks especially at the inlet/outlet necks, and ask if it was pressure-tested.
- Fins straight, not crushed or clogged
- No cracks or weeping at tank seams
- Inlet/outlet match your hose positions
- Ask if pressure-tested
Parts often needed together
Overheating stresses the whole cooling system. It is worth checking the thermostat, upper and lower hoses, radiator cap and fan motor at the same time.
- Thermostat and housing
- Upper and lower hoses
- Radiator cap
- Fan motor and relay
